SERBIAN MINORITY POLICIES IN THE LIGHT OF THE NEW REGIONAL TRENDS

Abstract

In this paper which lays in front of us, the author deals with the state of international affairs in Serbia and their influence on regional stability of the aforementioned. Considering the fact that multinational relations and the question of minority have always played a crucial role in the development of Serbian society , most of the paper is dedicated to detecting a place and a role of minorities since Second World War to present. In accordance to this, main goal of this paper is to look upon current problems of minorities in a context of broader social changes and transitional process. Other than that, the intention of the author is to point to some of the current problems and a wide array of possible solutions through the prism of new minority politics. In accordance with that , the mentioned minority politics in Serbia is trying to be put in a centre of much better international relations which would initiate and improve new and more fulfilling contacts with surroundings and region. This way , the Serbia would have a proactive role in regional constellation and it would improve it’s wavering democratic potential. In this paper some of the normative and practical steps are enlisted. These steps could satisfy aforementioned concept of minority policies which , in turn , would have a more stable regional cooperation as a result. The final conclusion of this paper is that it is not just enough to cover minority policies legally and constitutionally it also needs to have its practical foundation. Finally , this paper affirms the coordination of international relations with stable social and governmental development perspective.
