VOJVODINA`S GEOPOLITICAL POSITION: HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Keywords:
Vojvodina, geopolitics, Pannonian plain, Rimland, Heartland, Serbian historyAbstract
This Paper questions the point of view that places Autonomous Province of Vojvodina as a part of Serbia located inside Central Europe. Due to a fact that Vojvodina is, in a strict geographical sense, the part of Pannonian plain, this point of view easily equates Pannonian plain with Central Europe in cultural and geopolitical sense, also by supposing that streams of Sava and Danube is a “fixated”, permanent border between different geopolitical and civilization entities. Starting with the observation of territory of today`s Vojvodina inside Pannonian plain in geopolitical and geo-cultural sense, the Paper provides detailed analysis of geopolitical shifts in this territory from prehistory up to present times and comes to the set of important conclusions that are showing that streams of Danube and Sava is neither permanent nor cultural and civilization border.
