TERRITORIAL IDENTITY: REALITY OR FICTION
Keywords:
territorial identity, region, territory, identityAbstract
The concept of territorial identity is used with the aim to explain attachment of individuals or groups for a particular region or territory. This paper analyzes the theoretical definition of the concept, as well as the results of several studies in Serbia, including those of the authors, the question of what territorial identity means and why the results obtained in the study have such quality and significance. The results presented in this research indicate the highest level of attachment of the respondents for their local environment, town or a village, and the immediate frames in the region. Lower levels of territorial identity are presented according to the broader territorial units such as the Balkans and Europe. In terms of identity crises of all kinds, the answers are rational and expected. Would higher levels of territorial identity contributed to increasing the level of other identities, whether personal or collective, is one of the most important issues in the setting of this paper work.
