Abstract

Next year, it will have been 170 years since the constitution of Serbian Dukedom, that is Vojvodina, as a territorial and administrative constituent of Serbs in the Hapsburg Monarchy. This event occurred in the time of revolutionary turmoil in the monarchy - a consequence of strengthening of the Serbian national idea and autonomous attitudes in the times of multinational state. Initial success was amended into religious and educational autonomy of limited range, which effected from historical circumstances and political interest. In such circumstances, the national romanticism which was promoted into endeavors of Serbian politicians and liberally oriented youth was unacceptable to the new national and state policy of now dual monarchy - of Austria and Hungary. Despite the vision of free Serbian national state, the significant part of thenceforth Serbian elite was ready to abandon the idea of freedom and acknowledge the political reality. Among them there were those who loyalty turned to subjectedness, often abandoning their national identity. Their political attitudes were the subject of criticism of patriotic representatives of Serbian political elite, but they remained slid by adaptation to assimilation. The development of political history in this direction was a sign of instable identity traits and was a trigger to hypocrisy, which can destabilize the geopolitical situation.
